What chemicals to use over winter?

If you wait until the water is colder than 60F then you can just use chlorine at SLAM level. No need for anything else. Does it freeze over winter there?

Normally we don't close our pools in this region. The occasional "southern blast" or hard freeze in Jan-Feb isn't a huge issue as long as water is always moving. But closing this early with hot-warm TX weather could present some problems, most notably algae and related staining later. Is there any particular reason you intend to close completely, especially this early?
