Hi, I am new to the community and I tried to search some threads but I could not find anything on my topic. My pool is 12 years old and I have a 24X52. I currently have the Hayward Xstream 150 cartridge filter/pump combo and have always had great luck with it aside from the locking ring being a pain sometimes to get on and off. Last year the bottom of the filter housing developed a crack and I was able to patch it and stop most of the leaking and was able to finish out the season but this year I am looking to replace the system with something new. I was looking at the Wateray Clearwater II system, to the eye it looks comparable to the Hayward system with about $300 savings, I am looking at the one with the 2 speed pump. I can't find any reviews out there for it good or bad, does anyone have any experience with Waterway products? The model number is 522-5167-6S. I have had some people tell me to go to sand, but since I have never dealt with a sand filter, I am not comfortable with them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey OKR and Welcome !!!!

Waterway has been making some strides in market share lately and so far, nobody who went that route is complaining.

Personally I'm not a fan any kind of combo unit. 9 times out of 10 you'll throw out a perfectly good half when the other half has a problem.

But the price is usually attractive on the combo units, so there is that too.

Thank you for your reply and thank you for the welcome to the group. I appreciate your feedback and thoughts. There is a bunch of feedback out there on Hayward of course but I couldn't really find anything on Waterway. It looks like the schematics are close to the same, my pump itself still works (probably a few years of life left) but I just cant stomach paying top dollar for a new filter housing only. I figured since I was doing a new liner this year that I would just replace all of that too. Again thank you for taking the time to respond! :)

Food for thought. With the pool 12 years old, whatever you buy will likely outlast the pool. What will you do when the time comes ? I'd buy equipment with planning ahead as you really can't go 'too big' now. :)

Or. If say, you are planning on moving or wouldn't replace the pool in a few years, then the most budget friendly option would be the better choice.

For many years Waterway equipment was sold mostly to manufacturers, like portable (above-ground) spa manufacturers and jetted bath tubs. They supplied pumps, fittings, spa jets, etc. They make very good, reliable, pool equipment. The motors on their pumps, like every other manufacturer's, are outsourced from major motor manufacturers.

Very good things to think about here! Thank you very much for your thoughts. Hopefully I can get another 10 years out of this one :)
