Waterfall pump replacement

Hi guys,

I have a 35x15 saltwater pool and have the Hayward Super II Pump (pic attached) that is used exclusively for the 3 waterfall's in my pool. This pump is currently dead and will not turn on. I had called a technician for advise when he came to check the pool heater (which is also on the fritz) and he said it is very old and needs to be replaced.

Can anyone suggest a similar or better replacement? I am not handy and will have to call someone over to install it but it will probably be cheaper if I bought the pump myself. Thanks!

No pic attached.

Why not replace it with the same pump?

The Super II is a high head pump and is a bad choice for a water feature. It’s basically equivalent to a Whisperflo, which is also a bad choice.

They make water feature pumps that run at 1725 rpm, which is half the normal speed of 3450 rpm. They use a big impeller to provide the necessary flow. This design reduces power draw and noise while providing the necessary flow.

The correct pump for your application depends on the required flow rate and the suction and return head loss at that flow rate.

What is the required flow rate?

What is the description of the plumbing for the suction and return (length, diameter)?

An Intelliflo variable speed pump would probably work for you and it would allow you to adjust the flow to meet the desired effect.
