Hi,

I have two skimmers in a 35K gallon pool with a DE6020 filter. Recently I noticed that when the filter starts up 8am, that in one of the skimmers there is a vortex, and then there are some bubbles on the return jets. I added some water and moved the flap and it resolves itself, I then bleed the air from top of the filter and the bubbles are gone. I am guessing this is the flap, perhaps it needs replacement? Or could it be something else?

Thanks

P,

Normally, when you see a vortex in the skimmer, it is because the pump is sucking more water out of the skimmer than can enter from the pool.

Generally this is because the water level in the pool is too low or the weir door is stuck in the up position.

Thanks,

Jim R.

The water level is in the middle of the inlet, as suggested by the pool CO that opened the pool. I guess it must be the door as the other skimmer does not have this issue. Is that an easy replacement?

P,

Unless the weir is actually broken, it should just float up and down with the water level. Sometimes junk can get caught in between the door and skimmer wall, making the weir stick up.

Does the door move freely when you move it by hand?

Another thing you can try is to reduce some of the suction to the 'bad' skimmer and this will provide more suction to the other skimmer, which I assume is further away from the equipment pad..

Thanks

Yes it does, the culprit was a piece of white Styrofoam that got stuck between the door and skimmer. Thanks!
