After I had my pool re plastered and new stone coping I had Iron stains ( never had them before ) that I suspect came from the stone. They had to acid wash the plaster and while it was drained we had a lot of rain and the stains appeared. I did a normal Vitamin C treatment and it helped clear up 80% of them.

This winter I had already decided to drain 3/4 of my pool to lower CYA and I start over on converting to salt..
With the pool drained 1/2 way ( approx 9000 gal ) I added 10 pounds of Vit C powder and let it sit for a couple days before dropping it down more and refilling..It looks like a totally new pool now..Before it had brown spots I had decided to just live with :)

Glad to hear it worked. :goodjob: Next is to confirm the source of the iron. I'm not so sure about the stone. If you fill from a well, that would be #1. Some municipalities also have a bit of iron their water supplies. Do you ever see orange stains on white shirts or anything? Toilets or plumbing fixtures with stains? Might be something to watch.

so you added a VERY HIGH load of vitamin C into the water - 10lbs in 9000 gallons is ~130ppm. 2-4ppm is typically sufficient to remove stains. With that much ascorbic acid in the water, even a partial drain followed by dilution is going to leave behind a good amount of the stuff. Vitamin C neutralizes chlorine (or vice versa depending on how you want to look at it). So before you turn on the SWG, I suggest you get the FC up and holding using liquid chlorine. You may even want to SLAM the new water first to ensure all of the vitamin C is gone. Then turn on the SWG.
