Hi all,

I have a liner pool with steps that have cracked several times in the last 4 years both top and second steps. The water leaking from my pool each time has definitely worn away the backfill and you can tell when stepping into the pool there's literally nothing under them. I put a new liner in 4 years ago (when we purchased the house) but did not know enough at the time to realize the steps would become an issue or I would have done them then.

Anyway. long story short after suffering with a crack that caused my pool to leak for probably 6 months I finally found someone who would repair the fiberglass for $400/step. He only seems to want to fix the cracked area and not the entire step so i've had to have him come out 3x; once to do a different step and another time to fix a crack that developed right past his repair.

Well its happened again and there's another new crack on the top step just past where he repaired. Every place he fixed is good so the issue is simply that he won't do the whole stair when he comes out.

So what I'm looking for is my options at this point. Is Flex seal paste a joke? Is there something more I can do (aside from complete overhaul of steps) to minimze the risk of cracks? This pool was built in the early 90s so its about 30 years old and no surprise the steps are having problems.

As a builder, we don't do temporary repairs as it will always come back to bite you. I would find a good pool builder, preferably one that does liner pools, to pull the steps out and make a permanent fix. Do it right once, then enjoy the pool without worry.
