Using stand alone grill in kitchen island

Hey folks, so I’m finally starting on my outdoor kitchen built, just purchased the frames from bbqcoach yesterday, as they’re running a nice 4th of July sale!

So, now looking for new gas grill options. Because the built in grills are so crazy expensive, I was wondering, why wouldn’t I just be able to get a nice stand alone grill for half the price, dissemble it and use both the grill part, the burner and the cabinets as standalone built in pieces. I’m sure some mods will be required, but I’m typically pretty good about that.

Has anyone gone that route?

You could do this but I wouldn’t advise it. First if you have any combustible materials near the grill you would want an insulated grill jacket. https://www.bbqguys.com/outdoor-kitchens/insulated-grill-jackets

Also say you got a nice Webber gas grill. The drip pan is below the cart so you’d have to figure a way to keep that intact.

Now if you could keep the entire opening and say get rid of the side tables. This could work well. Like this

If yoy you have a Costco membership they have a built in grill that I’ve found to be decent. Now what I’m waiting for is a Lynx Grill with infrared trident burner. The lid also has a spring assist to it. The 36” model I would like it about 4K but I’ve been told and read it will be the last grill I’ll ever need to buy.

I also think this double side burner with cutting board is something I would like as well.

I had a similar request for our builder. I love my pellet grill, but cost of built ins is ridiculous, and will need to be replaced at some point. Further I’ve had this new grill for less than a year. He suggested just building in a bay for a rolling grill. It will be stone backed to match the rest of the kitchen. Here’s a rendering.
