Using Loctite on the impeller?

I replaced a pump last year and the impeller backed off a few weeks ago. My uncle, who does a lot of general maintenance on pumps suggested Loctite (the lower strength stuff, like purple, not the high strength). This impeller does not use an impeller screw. Does anyone have experience doing that? I think the reason it backed off was due to an accidental quick shut off and back on.

The main reason that an impeller will back off is compressed air in the filter decompressing and spinning the impeller backwards.

Adding a check valve between the pump and filter can help but the main problem is air in the system and excessive pressure.

I would reduce the system pressure, address any suction air leak and add the check valve.

The Loctite might help some to prevent unscrewing. I don't see any problem with using it.

What filter do you have and what is the normal filter pressure?

Do you get air in the system?

Do you get blowback when the pump turns off?

Your filter should have a bleed valve on top. Open it and see if air comes out.

Blowback would show up in the skimmer. Does water push out of the skimmer when the pump turns off?
