Using bromine granules

Likely would be used when you wanted/needed to bring up the bromine level up quickly. The best use I can think of is to use those to build a bromine bank, instead of adding sodium bromide directly. Although, if you already have a bromide bank, the fastest, cheapest way to bring up the bromine level is to add bleach. Even if my spa were bromine again, I don't think I'd buy bromine granules.

You can use MPS, bleach or bromine (solid forms such as BCDMH). However, solid bromine products will also contribute to increasing your bromide bank further over time. This won't really harm anything but it's just not as cheap as bleach or MPS. MPS is nice for spas because it's a dry oxidizer that converts bromide to bromine. It's not as cheap as bleach though.

And just remember that stabilized bromine (bromine bonded to dimethyl hydantoin, DMH) adds DMH to the water which is analogous to cyanuric acid in chlorine pools. Too much DMH can over-stabilize the bromine leading to too little active bromine (hypobromous acid) in the water.
