Used Above Ground installation

First post after skimming the net for a forum.

I took down a used 24', above ground pool 5-6 years ago. It was installed in 1997 and was in excellent condition. It's a sharkline/wilbar sendero 52". My intent is to finally re-install it at my home. Aside from a new liner & a couple of plastic post/top caps, the frame of the pool is remarkably, in great shape for a 23 year old pool. The aluminum baseplates are in perfect condition. 8 of the aluminum bottom rails have minimal corrosion yet I intend to replace them. 7 of the 18 uprights have some surface rust at the bottom 4" but they are not rotted. Since these have ground contact, what recommended paint procedures should I use to repaint them? My thoughts were to blast or use a wire wheel to remove rust, spray with cold galvanize. Any other procedures or products I could look into?

Welcome to TFP.

I would use a rust neutralizer rather then cold galvanize spray. I think once you have rust the wire wheel will nit remove 100% of the rust and the chemical reaction will continue. The rust neutralizer will stop the rust chemical reaction.

Thanks for the comment. I'll be sure to treat it.

I've since staked out a good location for the pool. I removed the topsoil where I noticed the subsoil is clay and in the construction industry, clay is not good to build on. But how about a pool? Since the location has roughly an 8"-10" slope, should I excavate the clay on the high side to match the low or truck in stone dust for a 8"-10" base and compact the snot out of it?
