Welcome to TFP and please add your signature. I have the FROG system, but the unit is being removed by the end of August for a SWG and chlorinator (package). Why both (a long story). Stopped using the Frog after the first year and switched over to liquid chlorine. Not only is the system expensive, the mineral cartridge can cause staining in the pool. Search the forum and you will find a lot of information. There must be an incentive from the manufacturer for PB to install the system.
I have used 3" tabs only without anything else in the canister. The setting has to be fully opened (on max number) or the tablets will not dissolve. Make sure the 3" tablets are not broken, or chunks cold kick back into the pool and settle to the floor. Use with caution as the design is for the canister and small chlorine packs. Only use this during times when I need my CYA to increase. Outside of this, it is strictly liquid chlorine. I personally would call the PB and have him switch out the unit, but it may be too late.

You will find from your reading that keeping levels low in the FROG system is not recommended to kill bacteria, pathogens, etc. I had algae spots on walls (not a circulation issue either), and the PB told me that you still would need to shock the pool. What a mess. Once I kept my FC/CYA levels at correct range, have never seen a spot of algae ever again. It really is a bad design. Your PB should of put in a chlorinator (which is a $75 unit). So there must have been some incentive.
