Pool Store advised my phosphates were 2003. A level that they said was extremely high. They recommended 2 gal of shock then 1/2 101FL Oz of Natural Chemistry PhosFree then the remaining 1/2 of PhosFree in 4 hours. Backwash 24 hrs later. Followed by PH Lower. Free Chlorine was 0.12, Total Chlorine 0.46 and combined Chlorine 0.35 PH 8.0 Calcium Hard 122 Total Alk 114 CYA 5. This is a 7500 Gal AGP. I see some notes that TFP does not recommend PhosFree. It was $90 at the store and cannot be returned,, Some help or comments please. My pool actually looks pretty good but hotter weather is coming and I want to get ahead of problems .

Welcome to TFP!!

By maintaining a proper a FC for you CYA level (see FC/CYA Levels) you won’t ever have algae. Phosphates are algae food but dead algae doesn’t eat. Actually algae as unsightly as it looks is not harmful and works as an early warning system for your pool alerting you of low amounts of sanitizer before bacteria or viruses could establish on your pool, very similarly to the canary in the coal mine.

2 gallons of 10% chlorine will raise your fc to 29ppm - well beyond SLAM Process level for your possibly non existent cya. FC/CYA Levels
this is asking for a bleached liner.
Phosphates are of no consequence in a properly chlorinated pool.
What a racket they have going with the phosphate remover that u can’t return it!
You need to get your own reliable test kit so u can manage your water properly .Test Kits Compared
Once u get one you can then do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to determine if u have an algae problem & treat it if necessary.
Until then add 5ppm of liquid chlorine daily- poured slowly in front of a return- use PoolMath to calculate additions.

Save your money. Stay out of the pool store with their inaccurate testing, poor advice, and over-priced products. Use the money you would've spent on a useless bottle of PhosFree and get your own TF-100 test kit. Link in my signature. You'll be glad you did. Consider getting a magnetic speed stir (or smart stir) to mix the reagents as well.
