In 2012 I poured a new slab around my fiberglass pool and put Tennessee Crab Orchard flagstone over the pour. I figured I would give an update after 12 years in case anyone is considering this type of flagstone. I documented the build in this link:

I have been really impressed with how well it has held up. I have minimal wear on the flagstone and it looks pretty much the same as it did when I first put it down. I did have to replace one flagstone near the stairs that split horizontally. I also experienced cracking in the flagstone over where each of my cement pours joined. I have sealed them with clay colored caulk. I also ripped out the pond large pond that I had and filled that area in and put a new stair and banister instead that you can see in pictures 1 & 2. The pond was quite a bit of maintenance and although I am not ready to sell my house I feared that it might be a hindrance when I did. I stopped sealing the flagstone after the first year. It was so expensive and after a few weeks it didn't looks sealed any more. Now I just pressure wash it every other year.

Here are some pictures:

But, seriously, it just goes to show that a good quality stone makes all of the difference.

Tennessee Crab Orchard is generally regarded as good quality stone.

99.999% of stone deterioration is due to poor quality stone.
