So my feed has several "pool" posts and most recently there is a new popular trend to cut a 3" section of copper pipe and drop it into your skimmer to keep algae out of your pool. While I know better not to do this after learning from TFP, it got me thinking about my Raypak heater since it contains copper components and tubing. As a result, I'm algae free! All kidding aside, does having a copper based heater have any impact to alkalinity or PH?

THANK YOU!!!!!

Over the last few I’ve seen a TON of hits from Google directing to a very old post asking about this topic. I had zero idea why we were seeing this activity. Now I know!

Just dropping a copper pipe in the pool is not going to kill algae. There either needs to be some sort of mechanism that releases copper from its solid state and puts it into solution in the pool, such as electrical current in a copper ionizer, liquified copper in copper algaecide, or super aggressive low pH water that destroys copper (and other things you don't want destroyed) in heat exchangers or old copper plumbing. People make up stupid stuff and post it on TicToc all the time.

You’re welcome and now there are new videos appearing about adding a cup of baking soda to your skimmer for an “extra boost”. Ahem…

I’m tossing ideas in my head around how to do a YouTube short debunking the rubbish. Bad news though, I’m old so it’ll stink

You’ve just discovered a valuable service - the Social Media BS Detector from TFP … just watch for old post hits to start taking off and then you know you’re seeing BS on Facebook, Twitter, etc …

You can sell it as a service !!!

I have a dr friend who works for google and she watches youtube videos and determines whether they contain legit medical information. You need to do this for pool videos.
