Thoughts on a used Esther Williams pool?

We currently have an 18' round above ground pool that came with the house and are interested in getting a bigger one at some point. I found a listing for a 16x30 above ground pool on marketplace. The owner says it's an Esther WIlliams pool from the mid 80s, it's already disassembled, and he says there's no holes or corrosion. Comes with a sand filter, a hayward heater that may or may not work (was worth $3k when purchased), and needs a new liner. He doesn't have the assembly instructions but says he took photos from when it was disassembled. He wants $6,500.

Are these pools even worth buying since it's almost 40 years old? And is $6,500 a reasonable price.

You can get a new pool for $6500, with the liner included.

You will DIY or hire out the install either way, so that's a wash.

Ester Williams pools were top of the line, but I wouldn't gamble any money on 'for how much longer'.

A full resin 15×30 is $7121. But it has instructions, a liner and will last the next 40 years. The extra is money well spent IMO.

As someone whose Facebook Marketplace algorithm is used above ground pool stuff, that price seems pretty high. Then when you take in the fact it is 40ish years old, it is crazy high. There is a 1 year used 15x30, that comes with a new liner, in my area being sold for $2,500.

Mine was ? unknown age, 18' round and I bought it for $300. it came with pump, sand filter, ladder, etc. This was pre-covid so prices have definitely gone up, but keep looking. You can definitely find a way better value than $6,500 for a 40 year old pool.

OP would be adding that anyway with the above 1980s pool shell for sale.

Would you spend a few thousand bucks on a new liner and equipment/plumbing for a 40+ year old metal pool, on top of the $6500 asking price ?

Read the many threads about Esther Williams Pools...

I don't think parts are available for Esther Williams pools anymore. People come here looking for used parts they need. So if you are buying a used pool you are making a bet that you will not need any important parts to get it up.

You are doing the seller a favor by hauling it all away. A thousand or two may be an appropriate thank you.

We bought a steel walled, salt water, 24 feet round in 8/22 for $7300 tax included, it came with everything needed. We had to pay extra for the electrical needed due to updated codes and installation. We estimate we paid about $11K total and that didn't include putting the rocks around the perimeter of the pool which we did ourselves.

My opinion is you are probably wasting money buying a old pool with probably old equipment (something already is said to may/may not work). How much is a liner for a old Ester Williams pool? 20 gauge is about $650; 25 gauge on Amazon is about $700 from what I can see. It may have a name but it also has the age.
