This Valve should be open or close ?

Hey guys, i have a question, should the intake valve be open or closed when filter is on. I closed it and PSI is about 25, and fully opened it, lots of water into the pump and psi is almost zero. should I half open to maintain the pressure around 10-15 psi? Thanks !

Hi, welcome to TFP! Never close the intake valve when the pump is on! Keep the valve fully open. From your photo it looks like there may be air bubbles in the pump pot strainer. Restricting flow can cause the pump to suck air in where the pipes join together, or you could have a leak in any of those joints. How high the pressure is at running can be affected by whether or not the filter is clean, or restrictions in the plumbing. When was the last time the filter was backwashed?

It should be wide open.

With maximum flow to the pump inlet, filter pressure should be highest. Your gauge is doing something weird, like maybe it's plumbed wrong or the gauge is bad or something.

I think that open is probably with the red handle lined up with the pipe and closed is probably with the red handle perpendicular to the pipe.

I suspect that the pump is way oversized for your pool.

What pump model do you have?

It sounds like you have the open & closed positions reversed. The handle as viewed in your pic should be in the 6 o'clock position when open.
