The Pool Cleaner Rebuild?

Hi All,

I have a 2 wheel “The Pool Cleaner” that is probably 7 years old and has been working just fine. Yesterday, I noticed that it was not working but it was still getting suction. I disassembled it and did not notice all obstructions. One of the wheels didn’t turn, but I was able to get it working by “fiddling” with the gears. I put it back in the pool and it worked for a few minutes. Then it stopped. I figure one of the internal parts needs replacement. Is it worthwhile to take it somewhere to have it rebuilt (if this is a thing?). Or should I just get another one? Are their other options I should consider? I just noticed the that the MX6 is on sale on Amazon for $150 cheaper than “The Pool Cleaner”. Does anyone have experience with both? Thanks!

Imo the pool cleaner is the best suction side cleaner. They hardly ever break down. Like you said 7 years and it ran fine. Most ss vacs need new parts yearly. The mx6 treads need to be changed yearly, the hose links are expensive and the gear boxes do fail.

Try this, its easier than what you did to make it work for a short while, just a few screws to remove and replace. It is an upgrade to the original design. And, for $150, about the least expensive repair you will ever find.
