I’m sorry in advance….i know you guys work very hard to keep us all informed and I’ve been all over the site but can you please explain, in a nutshell, what is the difference while using the TFP methods?
Thanks you

In addition to @mknauss post here are a few tidbits.
We recommend using liquid chlorine or salt water chlorine generator to chlorinate. Pucks and "shock" add CYA or CH to pool water. Both of which can only be reduced by replacing water. We don't say, "Don't use them," just that they aren't sustainable, and hence not "trouble free."
We recommend you maintain FC sufficient to sanitize the pool, and that is based on your CYA level. Link-->FC/CYA Levels
You don't need a bunch of potions to maintain a pool. Here is what we recommend:

We have a set of recommended levels for those chemicals that differ from "the industry." As an example, the industry recommends TA to be ~80-120. This is because of the acidity of using pucks. Using LC or SWCG, there is not acidity to fight. We recommend 60-80, which will greatly reduce pH rise, minimizing the use of muriatic acid to lower pH...among other recommendations.

^ That's the official answer. If you are looking for the JJ Nutshell, then here it is:

  • Test your pool using your own TFP approved test kit. No pool store testing, no test strips, no gimmicky digital tools, etc.
  • We use basic chemicals in our pools commonly found at big box/hardware stores and know exactly what we are putting in our pools.
  • Abide by TFP recommended levels, primarily the Chlorine (FC) / CYA relationship.
  • Pool maintenance is quick and easy, but should be done often
