Stains on Pebble Tec pool

I am struggling with stains located in the deep end (6 ft) and shallow end (3ft).

There are about 45 total stains. There was a tiny bit (.1) of Iron in my last water analysis but I have tried the Vitamin C test and it did not seem to help. I have been told I need to drain my pool and acid wash it but I wanted to see if there were any other options.

I was told by my pool guy that when this happens with a PebbleTec pool it's often the re-bar coming through from underneath.

There is grass within 6 ft of the pool on both ends so it very well could be the issue.

Based on everything I read it seems like I need to deal with the stains or drain the pool and acid wash it.

Is there anything that you can do to treat the stains?

I have had stains on PT but not quite as bad as yours. What I did was fill a medicine bottle with acid then invert the bottle down to the stain. I would then hold it on stain for 10 -30 seconds and squeeze bottle slightly to release some acid. Worked for my stains!

Typically an iron stain from Ferrous in the pebble tec is very pronounced in one area. yours seems to be more spread out and lighter as it goes. this is more consistent w something being tossed in pool and dissolving, the contact point being dark stained and as it dissolves, it's lighter around the peripheral areas.

was your pool inspected and do you remember seeing any rebar when gunite smoothed? If not, I am very doubtful this is even remotely rebar...you have surface stains from the exterior. And if this all happened at once, its external, esp if the pattern is closer to the sides where it's the point of entry

Steel bleed / rebar stains are linear and when more than 1, often symmetrical & basically mimic ( not basically they actually do) the steel schedule.

I was not the owner when the pool was built, but I am leaning towards the company that fertilizes my yard not being careful around the pool since I know they added extra iron last time to try to improve the color of the grass.

I am going to order this and try it. It is cheaper than draining the pool.

kadavis looked like they recommended a good product for you. You might want to call and speak w the seller and determine if they can give you any tips, other than what's in the instructions. Also, if you yard guys were dispersing iron pellets for your grass, you found your culprit...

I had some luck with the stains. They did not come completely out, but they look substantially better.

I used the Purity Pool OS Out Spot Stain Remover. It was $29 on amazon and did a pretty good job. It initially left a darker spot that faded and now looks pretty good.

Wow, that looks substantially better - I believe over time it will only get better...you can hit any spot again and see if it helps more...brush it real well, wait 1-2 days and hit it again for anything you want to completely remove bc you know its there...mostly people are not going to even remotely know what is there anymore - good job
