SR Smith Typhoon connection hose broken at slide (my first post, BTW)

My slide is one year old and last July started to leak severely. Today I removed the front part of the flume and found the junction from the water hose was torn about 9/10 of the way through. I removed it the rest of the way intending to glue it (PVC glue?). Is there a better way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TFP! I'm not a slide owner so some of us may need a bit more description to understand how/where that connects. Can you post a couple more pics so we can see everything better? Also, one year old? Wow, that was fast. What is SR Smith's warranty? Those things aren't cheap, that I know. Have you reached out to the m yet?

I don't think PVC glue will work on two flat surfaces like that.

All PVC glue joints are a male pipe glued into a deep female socket.

You need to call SR Smith for repair instructions.

Warranty on slides is one year. Also, warranties on something this large is pretty ridiculous if they want to us to ship. I put in a service request and I'll call soon. I have some plumbing experience and have a strategy, but the fact that the PVC coupling was SURFACE GLUED (that white powder) to the resin slide makes me think this is a manufacturing defect affecting a large number of these slides.

BTW: The slide is great. It was very easy to install (if you have an impact driver and concrete drill) and the kids love it. I enjoy it too.

Looks like a threaded fitting.

Can you show a better picture of the part left in the slide?

Can you access the other side of the fitting in the slide?

The fitting is either threaded in or there is a nut on the other side.

Remove the nut or unscrew the fitting threads.

Looks like a threaded schedule 80 PVC adapter.

Ask S.R Smith if the fitting is a regular schedule 80 PVC fitting and if it is glued in or just pipe dope./sealant.

Maybe cut notches into the remaining part and then insert a flat metal bar into the notches and unscrew.

Get a new fitting and redo the plumbing.

If you can find a piece of pipe that will fit into the part in the slide, you can glue it in and then unscrew the fitting when the glue has dried in about an hour.

If a piece of pipe does not fit exactly, you can get one that is slightly too big and sand it down.

You can also try a coupling to see if you can get a good tight fit like a regular glue joint.
