Spillway question?

Good morning fellow pool gurus! I am new to this pool thing and just recently purchase a home with a IG 15K plaster pool with integrated spa. I have some clue to what things do and then again have no clue to what other things do. My question is on the spillway from the spa to the pool it seems like i just get a little flow and to me it should be a good flow to make the waterfall look and sound good if that makes since. So i guess what I'm wondering is the spa main drain sucking to much water out verses putting it back in through the jet? Or does the main drain on the spa even work when just the pool is filtering? I know when i booster the VS pump to max it has a good flow over the spillway but not when the pump is at normal speed of 2200 RPM I have added some pictures of the equipment set up and the spillway of the spa so you have a idea on what it looks like. When it come to the equipment i am familiar with some of the valvles but not all. Any advice would be great to get me started in the right direction. Oh and the picture of the pool is when we moved in and i promise its not that dirty know!! LOL

T,

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for all pool owners with spillage issues... :drown:

I see you have an EasyTouch... In theory they operate in one of three modes...

Pool Mode... where it sucks water from the pool and returns water to the pool

Spa Mode... where it sucks water from the spa and returns water to the spa

Spillover mode... where it sucks water from the pool and returns it to the spa... causing, as you would expect, the water to overflow into the pool.

If you look at your main panel, you should be able push the Valve (V) button and select the Spillover mode.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I will try that when i get home for sure. I guess that i was a little confused because i was under the assumption that the manual stated that the Spillway feature could only be used in service mode. If im not mistaken it is in pool mode now and the return jet in the spa is pumpimg water out of it. Could that me correct? I will look this evening and see for sure.

Valves (V) - (Pool/Spa/Fill (Spillway)/Drain) button: When in normal operating mode, the Valves (V) button is in “Pool” mode. In this mode the valves are automatically rotated so that only the pool water is circulated through the system and the filter pump is activated. Pressing this button once enables “Spa” mode and activates the filter pump to circulate only spa water through the system. “Fill/Spillway” and “Drain” mode can only be used while in “Service” mode (See Mode button for details). “Fill/Spillway” and “Drain” mode are used when cleaning the spa. Pressing the Valves (V) button again returns the system to “Pool” mode. Note that the filter pump will switch off while the pool/spa valves are rotating into position. The current operating mode is shown in the LCD display. Note: The Valves button (Pool, Spa, Fill (Spillway), Drain) button has no function in “Pool only” or “Spa only” systems. For an EasyTouch single body system, “Pool” and “Spa” modes are Lo- Temp (Pool) and Hi-Temp (Spa) temperature controls. For more information, see “Hi-Temp/Lo-Temp Controls for Single Body Systems,” page 41.

I confirmed that the valve (V) button on works in pool and spa mode when its in auto. The Spillway (fill/drain) can only be used in service mode. When its in pool mode then the one jet in the spa is circulating water but not a a rate that would make the water fall overflow with a good rate. And when in spa mode its just the spa running. I know that when i have the VS pump maxed out and the pool is on then it over flows great but doesn't that defeat the purpose of a VS pump if its maxed out all the time? Thought it might be possible to divert more water to that jet verses the pool jets but not knowing how pool was plumbed not to sure? Maybe something is not programmed right?

On my spillover setup the PB installed a manual valve on the return side so I can control how much water is returned to the pool and spa. It's hard to tell from your pic angle but appears to be a black valve ( after backflow site glass ) were the returns are going into ground. I just send more flow to spa then pool on mine.
