Spa floor return issue

I’ve had a problem plaguing me for the past 6 years. When we moved in there was a hacked together fountain head on top of a long pvc pole in the center return of my spa. This center return drives the spa overflow to create a waterfall when the main pool is in operation.

It is a 1.5 inch thread and I just need something simple so it’s not a wide open hole. Attached is an image of my last attempt which unfortunately has threads that are too short to screw into the return.

Can anyone offer suggestions as Ive not found anything that I can use.

TIA

So it appears you have female threads looking up at the bottom of the spa. How deep down are those threads? The cover you show has what appears to be 1/2 inch or so in length and those male threads do not engage in the pipe.

Have you considered purchasing a 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe plug as these have a uniform OD to fit down into the pipe. Then just drill several holes in the top of plug to allow flow. It won’t be as fancy as the one you show but will accomplish the same purpose.

Try the plug first to see if it engages the pipe, Remove it, drill the holes and then reapply.

See different options on this Home Depot link

Or try this

Or you could get a 1 1/2 threaded to 1 1/2 female glue in adaptor, cut the threads off the fancy piece you have and glue it in place

Thank you for the suggestions - I went with a pvc plug so it’s low profile and less likely to stub a toe.

Here’s the final solution working after drilling some holes.

Nice work. You could even take a file, sandpaper, belt sander, etc to the edges and round them over. Make it a custom job. Then some pin striping, maybe some flames, etc.
