Solution to skim and vacuum at the same time?

Hello all, new to the forum. I'm not a pool newbie by any means, but I've been wanting to find a solution for this. I have an in-ground pool in Florida and it is a standard setup with a skimmer and one suction hole in there where I plug my hayward pool vac ultra in to vacuum. I do not see that I have a dedicated vac port, unfortunately, three return jets. The vac does its job on the bottom but at the surface there's nothing cleaning it and it's a real pain to keep unplugging the vac and plugging it in non-stop (ain't got no time.) Does anyone have some advice on this? Is there like an auxiliary skim machine I can buy which plugs into the suction hole in the skimmer but also has a vac port and then maybe control the suction, 50/50 or whatever?

There are robotic skimmers - they are a little pricey.
You can also upgrade to a robotic pool cleaner like a dolphin that would function independently of your pool pump & filter & also leave your skimmer free to skim.
I have not seen a device that will do what you mentioned but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist

e3h,

I no longer use a suction cleaner as I found that robot pool cleaners work so much better me.

That said, I initially used a suction vacuum that I plugged into the skimmer and found that I did not like not having the skimmer work. So, I modified the pump input line so that I could plug a vac line into the equipment pad. Not a great idea if your equipment pad is not right next to your pool, but mine was.

You can see where the original single suction line came into the pump and the new curved stub with the black cap is where I could plug in the vac hose. It worked pretty well and the Jandy valve allowed me to adjust the suction going to the vac vs, the skimmer.

Thanks,

Jim R.
