soda ash and baking soda

I have an extra bag of soda ash and I would like to raise the TA in my pool.
I normally use sodium bi-carbonate but a little mistake in the delivery request so they just let us have the soda ash bag.
Is it bad to add Soda ash when normally only add sodium bi-carbonate?

What is your TA now? You sure you need to raise it?

Soda ash raises pH with little effect on TA.

At the bottom of Poolmath you can use the 'Effects of Adding Chemicals' at the bottom to see the impact of adding both soda ash or baking soda to your specific sized pool.

Soda Ash will drive pH way high, which may make you add acid, which will then lower TA even further. Just use baking soda. Save the Soda Ash for somebody who has crashed their pH by using too much trichlor and dichlor.
