Skimmer weir door coming off

Moved from here.
My skimmer weir door (or flapper) keeps falling off. I am guessing it is because the round socket (or whatever) on the skimmer itself has because somewhat worn and doesn't hold the weir door as well as it used to. Do I need to replace the entire skimmer unit to fix this or are there other options?

I don't know if these all work the same but my weir door snaps into a circular plastic holder. But it comes lose on pretty much a daily basis.
I have the same door design, seems like this door is designed to pop off if water gets to low to prevent starving your pump of water.1661193525663.png

This is an old thread, but the way that I fixed this is by heating up the cylinder part of the weir door with a paint removing gun. You could probably use a hair dryer just as well. This causes the plastic to become very soft and flexible. I then put in an Allen wrench and twist it to expand the diameter of the cylinder slightly. The reason that I use Allen wrenches is that I have a set that are in 1mm increments. So I can find a size that works for this. My door looks exactly like your diagram. I think that was suggested to me on another thread on this site.

I am assuming you have tried a new weir door. I would hesitate on doing anything to the skimmer. Do you have the skills to make the pin on a weir door larger with a sleeve from a nylon, Teflon, plastic tube or replace it with a larger nylon, Teflon, plastic rod? If the catch on the skimmer is worn so much it will not retain the weir door using epoxy it get it back to the original shape would be my next attempt. I am guessing not much needs to be added to retain the door and a little to much will make installing the door impossible.

The other way to do this is using a replacement kit that has new prongs. You glue this to the bottom or side of the skimmer. In order to do this you have to drain some water from the pool.
