Oh darn, Keri, I don't think that they'll work with that center pole handle? The skimmer sock or hairnet is placed inside to line the basket floor and sides- that pole doesn't allow that.
My basket has a handle across the top which also helps hold the skimmer sock / hairnet in place. The water enters the basket and the sock allows it to pass on to the pipes below yet catches the solids and microscopic dust and pollen.
I too hate putting my hand down there to grab the basket... so that's Skippy's job.
He either washes out the sock and replaces it, or tosses out the now dirty filled hairnet and puts another in its place.
I can't live without my skimmer sock. Unlike many here who order them online, I think I'm the odd ball. I use a one-gallon paint strainer net I got from Home Depot. Everyday I pull it out, knock it against the fence to get bugs and junk off, and replace it. I've used the same net sock) for over a year now. Ha. But many like the disposable kind so they can just grab & toss.
But, yes, they are extremely beneficial and grab so many of those tiny bugs and debris that would otherwise slip through the strainer itself. Yes, I have to get my hands and fingers in there with the bugs (spiders, crickets, etc). Most are dead already but the live ones I just quickly knock off the netting. I highly recommend a skimmer sock.
If u cut a hole in the middle of the skimmer sock it should fit & still do a pretty good job.
similar to what do with regular coffee filters for my percolating coffee pot.
@Turbo1Ton That is brilliant! Gonna show this to Skippy and see if he wants one.... or just wants to take his chances with the livestock in the skimmer???
