Hi,

Trying to get a quick opinion--I recently had a complete remodel of my pool. Should ask my PB to make my skimmer cover/lid and the collar around it flush with the paver pool patio deck? It's slightly elevated (more than a quarter inch) above my pavers. I spoke to pool service / cleaner helping set up the pool who told me they usually install skimmers slightly raised above the paver patio deck level so the rain doesn't flow into it. I would prefer it be flush with the deck pavers so it's less of a possible tripping hazard. Also, the lid fits but I have to slightly force it into place which makes me think the skimmer plastic collar the lid fits into should be refitted around the pool deck pavers.

Any opinions on on the raised pool skimmer lid/collar? I live in SoCal where we usually don't get hard rains (this year is the exception). Thank you very much.

Why would there be a concern of rain water getting in the skimmer given that rainwater is falling directly into the pool water at the same time?

That said, it may be better to be a little high so as it settles over time it doesn’t sink below flush which then exposes your feet to raw paver edges. 1/4” seems a bit high.

I think the pavers will settle, not the skimmer. If the skimmer settles it will be bad for the pipes.

Its a toe stubber and a tripping hazard. Have them make it flush.

That skimmer is to be absolutely level with its surroundings.
The collar is not designed to be exposed to UL sunlight.
I personally have never seen a skimmer purposefully set higher than the coping or deck grade elevation.
The skimmer is set into a vault of Shotcrete and will not move without damage to the plumbing that’s connected to it, so it’s elevation is not going to change or settle.IMG_4139.jpgIMG_4141.jpgIMG_4142.jpg

My skimmers have a short collar that fits into a hole in the concrete deck and “floats” over the actual skimmer. I can remove the collar and sink it down further if I wanted. I assumed that was the case with all skimmers, perhaps mistakenly.

Mine is 2 piece as well. One was sunk too far at the old place and it bothered me for 8.5 years. I learned on build #2 that I could have popped it back level with the deck but lesson learned too late. :ROFLMAO:

My 'hat' for lack of a better term, slides into the skimmer which was set in concrete, level with the wall. It was taped to keep the guts clean during thr pour.

Thanks for the reply. My skimmer has a "collar" too (see pic). But not sure it's that easy to move since it's set into my paver pool deck?IMG_4959.JPG

Thank you for you reply. They installed pavers around the collar (it's a separate piece from the skimmer-see photo), but if the collar isn't UV protected then I will mention it to the PB.

It looks like there is a gap between the collar and the skimmer body anyway. They should be assembled together properly. It looks like lowering it would allow the 2 components to mate together.

I assume the pavers are not glued down? If you have the polymeric sand around the collar, you may be able to dig that out and lower it a bit more.
