Hi,
I have a pretty basic set up, with a pump, filter, chlorinator and a heatpump.
When I'm heating the pool I'm running the pump 24x7 so no issues there.
On colder days, I revert the chlorinator to the "auto" programme which runs for 2 x 6 hours per day. All fine.
What I have started to notice is between 6hr cycles, the skimmer basket (which is by then full of leaves) ends up upside down and as a result, all the leaves and debris are sucked through the plumbing and get caught in the pump basket. Once pump stops after a cycle, there appears to be a huge release of bubbles back through the skimmer box which pushes the basket upside down. It can't re-seat by itself and ends up jammed, with all the leaves then getting sucked through.
I'm wondering if you have any ideas about how I could resolve this.
In the next 12 months we're going to be relocating/replacing all the pool equipment and plumbing so at this stage I'm keen to just apply a tactical fix.
Could a Non-return valve on the suction line do the trick? For example this one:
