Skimmer basket handle

While cleaning the skimmer basket I took the handle off and it got sucked down the drain. I'm imaging that it isn't a problem right now, but that it will be eventually when debris gets caught around it. Is there anything I can do to get it out? It's an inground pool, so most of the plumbing is under ground. Thoughts?

You might try turning everything off, then pushing water backwards from the pump to the skimmer. Since it's a light, plastic piece, hopefully it's just sitting at the first 90 degree elbow. If you have a water pressure bladder to push water, that might help even more. If not, try a garden hose with a rag wrapped around it first.

I am relatively new to being a pool owner so please bear with me, how would I go about pushing water backwards from the pump to the skimmer? Also, could you elaborate on the water pressure bladder (which I do not have, to my knowledge, but will get if need be)? Thanks again!!

Sure. With the system OFF, open the clear lid to your pump. Insert a garden hose into the hole that water normally enters from the pool. Wrap a rag around that hose to help keep it snug, then turn-on the water. Water should get pushed "backwards" from the pump to the poolsdie skimmer. If that's not enough pressure, the hardware stores sell pressure bladders like a Drain King or this one below.

Or put a shop vac hose firmly against the skimmer hole and turn it on. You may be able to suck it right back up.

Thank you for the explanation. I'll give it a try!
