Simple shock vs. burnout

I am opening my pool. Pool World tested water and suggested 18 one pound bags of burnout. I have a high clorine level but apparently a very low amount that is usable.

I have case of simple shock. Are they the same?

also, reading about putting in straight clorine. If simple shock not same as burnout i may go buy some clorine...though need to figure out amount...

How are you testing your water?

Not entirely sure what Burnout is. But we advocate using plain bleach or liquid chlorine to clear your pool.

You need a proper test kit to do it. We suggest the TF100 from TFTestkits.net or the Taylor K2006C.

Welcome to TFP.. a great place to find the answers to all of your "Shockingly Burned Out" questions...

I suspect the reason your "High" chlorine is not usable is because your CYA level is through the roof...

We don't operate well on readings like "High" or "Low"... we base all of our recommendations on actual numbers...

What are your readings for the following tests???

CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA

Post up the listed ingredients on the products you are asking about. Although without test results we can't tell you if you could get away with using any solid forms of chlorine.

Burnout is just cal hypo.

Youd get get the same results for much cheaper using liquid chlorine.
