Sikaflex or other Sika product?

Hey there, I have owned my pool for 10 years it is a 40 year old pool and the original deck-o-seal that was installed 10 years ago is failing. I want to do the project and was wondering if you guys prefer sikaflex or some other Sika product?

My father-in-law had mentioned that his pool guy used sand to fill the Gap around the pool rather than foam backer and I was wondering if any of you have heard of this technique? I have a big pile of sand from removing pavers so I already have the sand but want to do it right the first time because I don't need practice replacing Expansion Joints LOL

Any advice you can offer me I would appreciate, I have read some of the threads but I'm still a little timid

Don’t do it, sand won’t flex and eventually you’re going to pop off your coping and might have other issues, that gap needs to remain flexible for a reason. I used sikaflex on top of foam backer then coated it with sand on top, it looks a lot better than expected.

Is that the old school way it was done? His understanding was that the sand is supposed to get under any of the slab that has lifted. Can I also use the sikaflex on the Cracks that are in the slab?

BlindinOC, did ya ever use the Sika flex? I have a few hairline cracks I'm looking to fill on my Kool deck and am wondering if you recommend the product. Thx
