My pool equipment (pump, filter, salt generator, etc.) is in direct desert sun all day long, no shade whatsoever. Should I consider building an awning above it to give it a break from the sun?
I was just going to suggest this...except I got the same thing from Ikea for $10 bucks since it was on clearance last year.
If they have them again, they'll probably go on clearance again at the end of the summer season.
I can assure you that equipment in full exposure to sun and rain will have a shorter lifetime than covered equipment. Look at your drip lines also, asphalt shingles drop grit that will lock up a multiport valve. If covering your heater make sure it still meets code.
