I am building a new pool and now I’m at the stage of preparing to start the pool deck which will be 16x24” marble pavers installed with mortar over a concrete base. The pavers will also be 1.25” thick.

The contractor is saying that I can either choose to install the marble pavers with 1/8” inch gap between each paver and fill that gap with grout. Or just install all the marble pavers as close together as possible so there’s almost no gap and don’t put any grout.

I’m kinda torn between these choices. On the one hand it seems like grout may crack or get dirty pretty quickly since it’s outdoors. On the other hand I don’t know if pushing the pavers super tightly together with no grout could lead to issues with expansion/contraction of the paver and also allow filth to eventually get into the seams?

What would you guys do in this situation? Thanks!
