I'm posting in AGP because that is where I've seen the most posts about semi-inground pools.
Have been wanting a pool forever. But other things have always put it off (kid in college, etc). Every spring/summer I spend a ton of time on here, researching the latest just in case we are ever able to pull the trigger. It has been time well-spent as I have learned so much and my ideas about what kind of pool might work best have changed over the years.
I am thinking we might be ready within a year or so. We would most likely plan to install ourselves - that is how we built three houses and two ponds over the past 25 years. Our property has a slope and I was thinking that a Radiant Metric built into the slope with one half of it basically buried with concrete decking and then the other side (unburied) would have wood decking around it would be our best bet. The only problem is size constraints of the metric series. I have four kids, ages 11-21, and we have lots of kids over at our house all the time, plus large extended family gatherings, etc. Therefore, I was planning on a 20x40 or 24x44' freeform or kidney shape, which would follow the contour of our slope nicely. Does anyone know if a standard Radiant inground pool can be semi-buried, rather than completely buried? We would like an actual deep end, as well, and with the metric it looks like you can only go 7 feet deep and it's a pretty small hopper, too.
Also, I see on the Radiant web site that they show some nice options for liner-covered swim-platform type entries, but I don't see whether this can be applied to a semi-inground also, or just the full inground pools. Anyone have any information? Anyone who might like to share what a pool-kit for the metric vs the inground Radiant series costs? I have read old posts that seem to indicate that Radiant has pretty good support for DIY installers.
Thank for any help. I plan to contact Radiant with these questions as well, but would like to have owner-builder opinions too, not just pool manufacturer information.
