Sealant Around Skimmer

Hello Everyone - This is my first post here. I have a 18x36 T-Shaped IGP that is losing water when filled to the skimmer 2nd screw. I suspect I'm losing water around the skimmer faceplate as the I saw some dye work it's way in, plus the water loss has been greatly reduced as the water level went near the bottom of the skimmer. I would prefer not to change the faceplate at this time - I have a liner change in my future and I'm concerned I will not be able to get a tight seal with the new screws, I'd rather wait for the liner to be switched out. I'm looking to use an epoxy or sealant around the edges of the skimmer where I can see a slight gap and I can see the gasket. Question, I'm considering using either PC11 Epoxy or 3M 5200 Marine Sealant around the skimmer plate, has anyone used these products or can anyone recommend something that might work? Thank you !

I've never used the 3M marine sealant for my skimmer but for everywhere that I have used it, it worked amazingly well. If that epoxy isn't the thick type it would also work. Thick wouldn't be pretty and you only need a small bead if it works like the 3M.

I've used PC11 on my pool steps and other places and it works very well - the best thing about it is you can use it underwater and it will cure hard, so it's perfect for cracks in steps. I'm not sure how easy it will be to get into the gap between skimmer plate and vinyl liner. I definitely think the 3M 5200 would be easier to apply because I could use a caulking gun. I just never heard of anyone using the 5200 for pool and I wasn't sure if it could handle chlorine. I'm leaning towards using it. Thanks for your reply.

As long as you clean the skimmer and scruff up the area you will be putting the 5200 that stuff will never come off. It also helps to wipe the surfaces with rubbing alcohol before putting the sealant on.
