Scupper bowl install

Hello all,

Looking for some advice and confirmation I am doing this right.

When we built our pool we had 2 deck jets installed on each corner with the intention of installing bowls in the future. Future is here and we are installing.

I have my pipes extended up and am about to install bowls. I plan to just use a hydraulic cement in the hole around the PVC pipe. Is this ok?

Would you bed the bowls in with mortar? I don’t want to mess up the travertine in case we ever remove them. The bowls weigh about 100 lbs.

Also, I had to tweak the location of the pipe, so now the paver hole does not line up. Since this is hidden, just leave the paver out and fill with sand or cut in a new one?

Hydraulic cement should be just fine. You probably don't need to set the bowls in mortar if they sit perfectly level as-is but I doubt that's the case so mortar it is. If they are level then landscape adhesive should do the trick...I wouldn't want them just sitting there for fear of some crazy kid to come an kick one.

You can leave the paver out but it isn't a big deal to trim a paver to fit - but that's assuming you have extras. If you don't have any on hand, i wouldn't run out and buy one.

Landscape adhesive! That slipped my mind. I was also thinking grout to match the tile grout. But I like the adhesive idea better.

Man those are SO pretty!!! 100 lbs??? What are they made of?

Does the water flow through the pool filter just like the pool water? I would take the stones out every once in a while to check for stuff growing to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the complement. They are made of concrete. The store used a forklift to get them onto my truck. My wife and I muscled them into place.

The water is filtered, they are basically just like pool returns. I also have valves on them so I can turn off as needed.

I agree about the rocks. Especially since the bowls drain when filter is off (no check valve). I am thinking of just running the pump continuously at very low speed to prevent from draining and keep circulation.

I stir up the rocks a bit when I brush the pool.

The water draining will make it even easier to keep them clean as it will not just sit there.

Concrete?? WOW the color and shape make them look like metal! LOVE THEM!!!
