Sand filter minimum size?

Hi, I have a very small above ground pool (1000 gallons) that I use for my dogs to swim in. Despite using a panty hose on the skimmer, my cartridge filter is constantly getting clogged from all the hair. It's a big pain to clean it out so I was interested in switching to a sand filter since that seemed easier to just backwash it. I noticed the one I was looking at had a minimum pool size. I'm confused as to why that's the case. I understand too large of a pool size for a small filter would cause issues, but what problems would be caused by running a powerful filter on a small pool? Would it still be possible to run a sand filter on my pool despite not meeting the minimum?

As long as the filter can get hooked up, and doesn't suck air, and you don't mind any current that might be generated, it doesn't matter. You could have a filter as big as a house if you wanted. I would still try to prevent some of the hair going into the pump and filter, but no worries, you can't go too large.

eBay has cheap pump and sand filter sets that run about $120 and then get pool sand locally. I've on my third year on mine.
