Can the lateral and stand pipe be removed without emptying the sand? I was thinking about doing a process similar to the filter deep cleaning, to loosen the sand and lightly work the stand pipe up. Then, reversing this to put the new parts in place. Anybody have any experience with this?

Welcome! No, you'll need to remove the sand. Even if you were able to try and pull parts out of the sand you would do more damage. Then you still need to remove the sand to put it all back in. When you remove the sand, be sure to place a tarp on the ground. Save it and reuse it. Sand doesn't go bad unless someone previously added a product like floc or clarifier that would compromise its effectiveness.
