Salt water bromine generator install

I own Premium leisure 982 spa. I decided to ditch the bromine floater sanitizer and add an in-line salt water bromine generator. I've been happy with the bromine floater, but I don't like that it only lasts 3 to 4 weeks. And if your not constantly checking it, it is easy to run low or out of bromine.

It was fairly easy to install. I'm sharing the details here incase any one wants to do the same. I decided on the:

With power ON :

My spa has a 24 hour circulator pump. First step is to identify the power for the 24 hour pump. The generator will be on low power with that pump. It can also be used with out a 24hr pump. You would connect it to a low speed pump for a minimum of 8hrs/day

Second step is to identify the plumbing after the heater, returning to the spa. It's hard to see in the pic, but i wrapped it with black electrical tape

Now I'm going to use ahh-some to clean it before I drain it.

Disconnect power and verify that it is OFF.

With Power OFF:

Drain it, clean it, and soak the filters!

Cut the plumbing and insert the SWG. for this model, the electrode must be installed vertically.

Mount the junction box, this also must be installed vertically

This unit comes with a top side controller to adjust the swbg. I mounted it on the top of the cabinet, right under the acrylic shell

Now connect the power from the SWG to the 24 hour circulator pump power that was identified earlier.

Refill the spa and turn the power back on. Leave the SWG off.

Test for phosphates (the test is included with the SWG). You do not want them with this set up. They will eat the bromine.

Balance your chemicals. I use the following:
TA 50
PH 7.2-7.6
CH 150-200

Next add 1.2 lbs of sodium bromide per 100 gallons of water in your spa. My spa used 4lbs 12 oz
Sodium bromide 1300-1500 ppm with a target of 1450ppm
Test strips are also included with the kit.


I used Sodium Bromide, Genesis Tru-Blu, 2lb Bottle, Case of 12 $214.40. That's enough to drain/fill my spa 5 times. And they recommend changing your water every 6 months.

Now you can power up the SWG and set the power level to 6. Test and adjust up or down every 24 hours to maintain 3-5ppm bromine.

It took about 2 hours from start to finish for the install.
