I am looking to put together a list of materials im going to need for wiring up my pool pump.

The pump location is approximately 100ft from the breaker panel in my basement. What should i be using for wire, breaker, is a sub panel necessary? Is it better to use a gfci breaker or receptacle?
My city's code calls for a min #12 awg wire.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have had several times when my circuit breaker ground fault has tripped for no apparent reason. I have read that over 100 feet of wire sometimes can have an effect on circuit breaker types of GFCI due to small current leaks. If your panel will take a seimens type GFCI breaker that aparently is the fix as its shielded but don't use unless your panel specifically allows seimens breakers. I have a square D and it sucks. I think the code requires now circuit breaker GFCI but I would consider using a receptacle gfci instead. 12 gauge wire, conduit on any exposed wire, 20 amp double pole breaker and proper equipment gound an absolute must depending on your local building codes for the type. Here in arizona, metal conduit to the panel is acceptable equipment gound but you need to check your local codes. I strongly recommend getting permits and inspections, don't do this yourself without it, your life may depend on it.
