Rodents in pool, is water safe?

We live in Phoenix and a good portion of our backyard is desert landscape. With that come lizards and desert rats. I find these regularly drowned in the pool. It's a new home for us so I'm hoping with our presence the rodents will be deterred but I'm wondering how safe the pool water is with these animals that keep falling in. Should I be shocking the pool frequently or some special treatment (it's a chlorine pool). Just don't want my kids to catch anything...and they love to swim.

Chlorine works on their bacteria just as well as ours, if you keep up the chlorine levels, nothing to worry about from anything they may be carrying being in the water.

Now if you want to provide an escape route for them, that's where things like the frog log come into play. I've recommend it to some people in my neighborhood who have yards backing up to the open grassy hills, where the get everything from voles to rattle snakes (most have snake fencing which is good for keeping snakes out, but not much of a deterrent for things like voles)

Second the Frog Log! I got mine a bit over a month ago, and since then I've had no animals. I should have seen at least 2 birds and 4-5 frogs by now. I have mine a few feet away from the skimmer.

Normal chlorination will take care of most bacteria and worms that may enter your pool. The CDC has more information on animals in pools that you should find helpful.
