retractable pool cover

Sorry -- another newbie/wannabe question. Does anyone use a retractable pool cover? Are they worth the money? Do they really extend the pool usage? Do they really save on chemicals and water? If you have used one or if you have had experience, please let me know the pros and cons.

A pool cover of any type will extend your swim season on both ends (a month to six weeks both sides) as well as cutting down on CL use as the sun does not have the chance to rob your pool of CL. It also cuts evaporation. The main issue with pool covers is that the debris that would normally end up in the skimmer or be eaten off the bottom by your cleaner end up on top of the cover and then in the pool when you try to remove the cover. If there is a way to clean the retractable cover so that debris does not end up in the pool, then it's worth it if you will use the pool for that bonus time you gain.

We love our autocover for the safety factor of it. No wandering kid is getting in to *our* pool uninvited, thankyouverymuch!

We use a simple rechargeable battery powered leaf blower to blow off the cover before opening when necessary.
