We went out to our pool and the dolphin cleaner wasn’t working so my husband pushed the reset button on the GFCI and now nothing turns on. He bought a new GFCI and it shows the green light is on the GFCI but still the pump won’t turn on. We checked our breaker and it is on. We did turn the breaker off and on again. Still doesn’t work. We have a sand filter and timer hooked up to the GFCI. The reset button won’t work on the new GFCI not sure what to do next. Any suggestions. We did have bad storms here the last couple of days.

Welcome to TFP.

Do you have a multimeter or outlet tester to check that you have voltage at the outlet?

If the green light is on at the GFCI does that mean it has power? My husband did plug something into it and it didn’t work. We do have a friend that has testers that can test it. I have heard it could be the plug or the pump. It’s a new GFCI but the reset button wont push in.

If the GFCI is malfunctioning who knows.

Sounds like no power.

Nice to have friends like that.

Could be anything.

It’s a new GFCI but the reset button wont push in.

GFCI could be defective.

If the GFCI will not reset it could be defective or not have any power from the breaker. As mentioned above you need to determine with a voltmeter if the outlet is supplying power. If you are not experienced or comfortable working with power, please contact an electrician.

GFIs have a specific way they need to be wired. I know and have wired a GFI wrong and the green light was on but no power.

The best way to determine what black wire is coming from your power is to power off the breaker, separate all the wires making sure no wires touch, turn the breaker back on and measure the voltage with the leads of the meter. Do not touch anything except the plastic/rubber of the test leads. The corresponding white wire will be the return going back to the breaker. Turn off the breaker, look at the GFI and see which areas are for power and which is for GFI protection. Wire it up correctly, put it into the electrical box, turn on the breaker and test with meter to see you're actually getting 120 volt.

There is a line & a load side to gfci’s
As mentioned you need to check the voltage & ensure you have wired it correctly. If you have proper voltage & it’s wired correctly you should return it and get a new one.
