Repurposing a hot tub pump

My expertise with pumps is kind of limited, so maybe this is a dumb question.

I have a 5 bhp pump from an old hot tub. Could I book that up and use that for my sand point well?

Dan,

I suspect that pump works because the water in the spa is above the pump.

I doubt the pump can "suck" water up from a well point.

Well pumps are completely different animals, usually having between 5 and 7 impellers and they are placed below water level. Spa pumps are not self-priming, as Jimrahbe said.
