Replacing metal frame with PVC

I have a 14', 4-foot deep Bestway above-ground pool and have noticed rust developing on some of the metal poles on the top frame. One thing I've pondered was replacing the entire frame, including the vertical poles, with PVC pipes. Has anybody had any luck with doing so? What size did you use? What fittings/couplings? Did you fill the pipes with anything to weigh them down or ensure they could support the weight of the pool?

Whether or not it would hold, (which I personally wouldn't risk) the new version of that pool is $300 at TSC and will likely be on clearance everywhere soon. You'll spend $200 on pipe and fittings to fix a several year old liner that won't last 2/3 as long as the new pool.

You might even be able to find another one in camo. :)

I agree with Newdude! The whole repair/replace decision should be based on safety and cost effectiveness. PVC is expensive and if you buy the good stuff it's rated for 60 PSI of inside pressure. Any length of piping that is not supported from underneath is going to sag and you don't want to risk the pipe breaking and dumping a lot of water out.

Thanks, guys. I was afraid it wouldn't be feasible.

What's TSC? If it's Tractor Supply, I just looked and the 15' Intex is a little under $500.

Better start saving my pennies. I'm sure the current frame will hold for the remainder of this season, but I'll want to get it replaced sooner rather than later.
