my pump is dead.
It hand turns but won’t turn on.
It hums.
I replaced the capacitor. No dice. :(

I think the pump portion is ok and hoping to find a suitable like-for-like pump to replace this one. It is 4 years old and previous owner let it get rusty and holes rusted through the casing.


I would like to avoid plumbing work so one with same dimensions would be ideal.

What do you suggest?

My setup is simple.
No water features. 13,800gallon pool. Close valve to direct suction to single vacuum port when required.
 
Given the new DOE regulations, I doubt you will find the same pump since Hayward can no longer manufacture that model. However, you might find a replacement motor.


But I would look for a two speed and save on energy costs.

How do these 2 speed pumps know which speed to run in?

How do I change speeds?

We have something like this.

Compatible?
It wouldn’t know which speed to run in from what I can tell.

How does one adjust speed on a variable speed?

How do we determine the ideal speed for filtration circulation?

They make two speed versions of this timer. Also, you can add a second timer for the low/high switch although really you only need to run in low speed. A manual switch in the back of the motor works for most people. When you order the motor, you can usually request the switch as an option.

As for the VS speed, that can be as low as you want but usually around 1000-1200 RPM is a good start as long as the skimmer keeps working properly.

Is the VS adjustable on the pump itself or do I need a separate controller?

Any recommended motor that I can use with my existing pump? Or will I have to replace the pump end too?

I hate to spend a ton in a place I may not have for more than 2 more years.

The VS has an on board controller but you can also control them with an external controller as well.

Another option is to add a VS motor to the current wet end as long as it is in good shape. This one should work:

Just make sure you get a seal kit if you replace the old pump motor. Inyo can help with the details.
