I have a Pentair WF-28 pump with a 2-speed Century B2983 motor (10.0 Amps, 1.5HPx1.6SF = 2.2 total HP) and Intermatic Model P1353ME 3-switch controller. The original motor was single speed (11.0 Amps, 2HPx1.1 SF = 2.2 total HP). I assume the impeller is part no. 073129 for 2.2 HP. The pump is only used for my 22,000 gallon pool because I have two separate pumps for the Polaris 280 pool sweep and waterfall. The controller currently controls the 2 speeds on my pump and the 3/4 HP Polaris booster pump.
I want to replace the dead motor with a variable speed motor.
1) Does anybody know which VS motor I need so I don't have to replace the WF-28 pump? I don't think I need a larger HP motor since it only recycles the pool water?
2) Can I use my existing controller, maybe set one of the three switches to "On" all the time or just bypass the controller and send 230V straight to the VS pump?
3) With my current WF-28 pump motor on low speed, when I switch the 3/4 HP Polaris booster pump on, the WF-28 pump motor automatically kicks up to high speed, which is needed for the booster pump to work. If I change to a VS motor, will the booster pump being switched on automatically kick the VS motor to full speed?
