Rebuild parts for Jandy valve

I have a similar question as an old thread on rebuilding a 3 port Jandy Neverlube diverter valve :

I ordered the rebuild kit on-line for model 4720 as it fit the description of my valve. However the internal diverter assembly part in the kit, though the correct size, did not fit well due to the design on the bottom of the diverter (see pictures).

The new valve has a longer top stem, which should not be an issue. The bottom stem seems to be a tighter fit within the housing. I am wondering if sand the bottom stem on the new valve, if it would work. Or is it possible to order a part closer to the original?
My old valve works, so I may just return the new one.

Are you sure you have a Jandy diverter and not Pentair, Hayward, or other manufacturers?
