I’m not getting any error codes and recently replaced the temp sensor. I now get “spark” on the screen and then just hear a continuous clicking sound. The pilot isn’t lit and my pilot control only has a “on” and “off” option (no pilot setting, the knob doesn’t push down, and there is no ignition button. How do I get the pilot lit?

What model number Raypak heater are we discussing?

Are the valves on the gas line open?

Pilot assemblys have an orifice that meters the gas into the pilot assembly at the entrance of the pilot tubing into the pilot assembly held in place by a brass compression fitting. Over time this orifice can get plugged/restricted by small particles of dirt. The orifice inside the pilot assembly looks like a truncated cone with a very small hole in the smaller end. When the pilot assembly is removed and the pilot tubing removed the orifice might be loose in the pilot assembly and fall out by itself or it might be stuck in the pilot assembly and need to be removed by tapping the pilot tubing entrance against something like a piece of wood. The orifice can be cleaned with a soft brush on the outside of the orifice exit (the small end of the truncated cone) and the blowing through the large end using your mouth. DO NOT attempt to clear the orifice hole using anything that might enlarge it as this will cause excessive gas pressure to the pilot. When reassembling the pilot assembly be sure to tighten the pilot tubing so that there is no gas leakage but do not overtighten causing the brass fitting to round off then flats. This is all assuming that you have gas pressure to the pilot assembly.

Heater should be cleaned and checked regularly. Does not have to be yearly depending on operating enviroment. You may start to have one problem after fixing another because of lack of regular service. It might be best to have a qualified service technician perform a thorough clean and check.

The screen says “spark” and all I get is a continuous clicking sound. Is it safe to attempt to manually light the pilot with a long lighter?
Dangerous unless you have had the heater off for a while so that all gas that may be in the combustion chamber is gone. It is not recommended. If this is a propane heater, NO, too dangerous because propane can pool in the heater. It is heavier than air.
