Raypak heater water sw open fault.

Hey.

I just got a new pool and spa. Everything is working fine but when the spa is on I get 2 fault messages on my raypak 266 gas heater.

Its pretty annoying because the heater get the spa up to temp and them shuts down and won't keep it warm.

When I check the heater it says high temp 2. If I press mode it fixes it. Also sometimes there is a water sw open fault.

Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this? Its pretty annoying to have to get out and run to the equpment and re set it while we are using it.

I opened the back of the board and re set the temp limit to the max. 107. But it still happened.

hi, please update signature when you get a chance. The water switch is flow issue. You need 25gpm minimum for the Raypak heater to work correctly. Make sure all baskets are clean of debris.
what kind of pump do you have and do you have automation? Is it a pool spa combo? Is the heater hooked up to the automation?

Pressing MODE resets the heater. It does not fix anything.

Also sometimes there is a water sw open fault.

Both a HIGH TEMP fault and WATER SW OPEN fault are usually flow problems.

Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this?

Do you have a VS pump?

What speed is the pump running at?

Increase the pump speed if you have a VS pump.

That is not going to fix anything. And a spa temp over 104 can be unsafe for people.

Post pics of your equipment pad and create your signature with details of your pool and equipment so we know what you got.

I'll add pictures of my equpment. Do you think it has to do with the return for the spa being to small? There is like a small hot tub jet head there? I also get a low flow error on the clorinator when its in spa mode? I seems like the water from the heater can't flow out fast enough.

Everything works great when its in pool mode.

I have the pentair screen logic automation and I'm pretty sure the pump is a 1hp Hayward I don't think it is variable speed.

How long has your pool been open?

Has your cartridge filter been cleaned since the pool was opened? You can have plaster dust clogging your filter.

What is your filter PSI?

Pool has only been completed for a month now. The psi on the filter is at 10.

that is the return. Its today to get one of the suction. But its a normal like 6 inch plastic cover

I just checked. Its actually way diffrent. Its around 10psi in pool mode and around 22psi in spa mode.

I tried cleaning the filter basket on the pump and it didn't make a diffrence.

Thanks for all the help guys. Its a super annoying issue. I have to keep getting out of the spa to re set the heater every 15 min. It wasn't always doing this. Just started like a week ago

Have you cleaned the filter cartridge?

Try and run the filter with the cartridge removed.

With a new pool you should but a warranty claim in with the PB.

It hasn't been cleaned. I'm not sure how to do it.

I spoke with them. The guy is coming next week to look at it. I just wanted to get it resolved now. He seems to think that the return nozzle in the spa needs to be taken out so the water can flow better.

He said that it would probably only need to be done once a year when they close the pool. They are still waiting for the covers before the close it.

Do you think I should clean the filters? I watched a video. Seems pretty straight forward. The only thing I don't have is silicone lube.

You filter needs cleaning when it needs cleaning.

You should note the clean pressure PSI. I write it on the side of my filter with a Sharpie.

Clean your filer when the PSI rises by 25%. I write that on the side of the filter also.

We don't know what your clean PSI was and if your filter really needs cleaning. But a new plaster pool has a lot of plaster dust in it that the filter catches and so a cleaning soon after opening may be needed.
